Within this interactive course we will introduce and describe the What, Who, and Why of Self- Funding/Self-Insurance. Given that over 60% of employers employ some form of Employee Health Benefit Self-Funding, this class will provide the background and tools to understand this growing part of the Employee Benefits landscape.
The class will begin with “Why” 60% of employers Self-Fund their Health Benefits which will include discussion of both plan control and potential savings along with the additional administrative and risk that can accompany the decision to Self- Insure employee benefits.
The “What” is Self-Funding will describe the differences of Self- Funding versus a traditional insurance model and will focus on the key items of risk and how to avoid/control the risk. Along with a discussion of the components within an effective plan including, Plan Administration, Networks, Stop-Loss, and the various approaches to Self-Funding “packages” spending time on the one-stop shop or building of the components approach.
Within the “Who” section we will introduce and discuss the various players that can/should be part of a Self-Funded Benefit Plan. Included components will include, plan administrators, stop loss providers, care management services, networks, internal and external reporting, RX benefit, and other services that provide vital resources to a well-run plan.
