Getting to Know Alyssa

How did you get into the insurance industry?

As a kid, I dreamed of becoming an air traffic controller, drawn to my love for aviation and solving puzzles. However, high education costs led me to shift paths. Inspired by the movie Up in the Air, I pursued a degree in human resources at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, aiming to become a corporate downsizer—only to discover that such a job didn’t actually exist (thanks for the false hope, Hollywood!).

After a brief stint as a recruiter, I realized the industry was too cutthroat for me and not a long-term fit. Facing challenging situations at work, I began exploring the insurance industry, inspired by my Grandpa and Dad’s long-standing careers in the field. I spent three years with United Fire Group before joining BWO Insurance.

What is your favorite part of working in insurance?

I have the privilege of helping individuals and businesses navigate some of life’s toughest moments—whether it’s an accident, storm, fire, or unexpected loss. What I love most about being an insurance agent is turning uncertainty into stability and helping people move forward with confidence after the unexpected.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

My husband, Hunter, and I love traveling, camping, hiking, and running—anything that lets us explore and stay active together. Faith and community are central to my life; I volunteer locally and host Bible studies through my church. At home, I enjoy time with our three dogs—Nala and Bella, our Rhodesian Ridgebacks, and Zoe, our Cavachon—and I truly cherish quality moments with family and friends.

Answer Quick!

Did you play sports growing up? Do you play any now?

I’ve always been active in sports. In high school, I ran cross country, played soccer both for school and club teams, and was part of our downhill ski team. These days, I stay active by playing golf, running, and lifting.

If you could learn a language, which would you choose and why?

If I could learn any language, I’d choose Polish. My family has Polish roots, and I’ve always wanted to travel to Poland to connect more deeply with that part of my heritage. I actually started learning a bit in high school through a friend whose family was from Poland. Picking it up again would be a great way to honor my background and make future travels even more special.

What would your baseball walkup song be?

Gratitude by Brandon Lake.

Describe your perfect Sunday.

My perfect Sunday would start with church in the morning, followed by a nice brunch, and then spending a relaxing afternoon with family.

Getting Deeper...

What is your favorite childhood memory?

Growing up fascinated by aviation, I spent countless hours at the airport listening to air traffic controllers and watching planes take off and land with my cousins and grandparents.

What is your proudest achievement?

One of my proudest achievements is training for and completing two full marathons. It’s something I’m especially proud of because it required months of discipline, mental toughness, and perseverance. Crossing the finish line each time was a powerful reminder of what’s possible with commitment and consistency.

What is something about you that you wish people knew?

My husband and I have a special tradition for our anniversary. Every year, we set aside time to disconnect from the day-to-day and explore somewhere new together. We take turns planning the trip—he plans the odd years, and I take the even ones. It’s a meaningful way we stay connected, celebrate our marriage, and make lasting memories.
