PIA Takes Agent Priorities to Capitol Hill
This week, a delegation from PIA of Wisconsin traveled to Washington, D.C., joining PIA members from across the country to bring the voice of independent insurance agents directly to legislators at Capitol Hill. During meetings, PIA of Wisconsin agents discussed federal policy issues affecting agents, their clients and the broader insurance marketplace.

Among the priorities was combatting legal system abuse and the influence of third-party litigation funding (TPLF). Legal system abuse is continuing to grow and is impacting the affordability and availability of insurance for consumers nationwide. PIA supports greater transparency surrounding outside entities that finance litigation, including disclosure of potential foreign involvement.
In addition, PIA continues to support the state-based system of insurance regulation and has raised concerns about duplicative federal data collection and expansion of the FIO's authority. PIA supports legislation that would either eliminate the office or limit its authority and subpoena power.
Another key discussion centered on FEMA's direct-to-consumer (D2C)Â flood insurance initiative. PIA opposes the continued implementation of the D2C sales model, including Phase 2, based on concerns that it could create consumer confusion and diminish the role of independent agents in helping consumers understand and secure appropriate flood coverage. PIA continues to advocate for preserving agents' central role in the National Flood Insurance Program, along with a long-term reauthorization of the NFIP.

Advocacy is a cornerstone of PIA's mission, and trips like this ensure Wisconsin's independent agents have a voice in the federal policy discussions that affect their agencies, clients and communities.
Thank you to the members of our delegation who took the time to travel to D.C. and advocate for their fellow members and our industry!
