Get to Know: PIA Director April Tarras
April Tarras of Advantage Insurance Agency in Plymouth has been serving as a Director on the PIA Board since 2023. During her career, she has served in many capacities, both as a carrier representative and now as an agency owner. April's involvement with PIA is deeply-rooted, with her serving on many committees dating back to 2007.
Getting to Know April
How did you get into the insurance industry?
I graduated from college in 1981. Following my graduation, I worked at Sentry World in the Sports Center - my college degree was Food Service Management. I didn't like the long hours and weekends, so I decided to move over to Sentry Insurance.
What is your favorite part of working in insurance?
The wonderful people that I've met over the years!

Beach or Mountains?
BEACH for sure.
Cats or Dogs?
DOGS! I prefer small dogs.
How do you like to unwind after a hectic day?
With a couple of glasses of wine.
What is the worst haircut you've ever had?
During adulthood, I used to have bangs and they were once cut crooked... When I was a little girl, my mom also cut my bangs crooked!
What has been your favorite Halloween costume you've worn?
One year I was Flo from Progressive!
Getting Deeper...
Where did you grow up and what is your favorite part about it?
I grew up in Campbellsport, WI. I moved away for 15 years, and then moved back when my kids were little. I still live there now and love it, especially the closeness of having grandkids living next door and lots of other family nearby.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A veterinarian.
What has been your favorite place you've traveled to?
I had a wonderful insurance trip to Hawaii!
